Driving Ferrari, Ex Rival of the Doctor Fail to Win the Gulf 12 Hours

Loris Capirossi’s debut in the 12 hours event of endurance car race or Gulf 12 Hours that been held in Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi has reach its end with a quite disappointing results. The driver who once became the most persistent rival of Valentino Rossi in MotoGP only could finish the race in the eighth position.

As we all know, Capirossi has end his career as MotoGP rider a few years ago. His performance before joining the Gulf 12 Hours race is actually quite promising. The Gulf 12 Hours is held on 14 December 2015 in Yas Marina Circuit of Abu Dhabi. In the Free Practice 1 (FP1) session, Capirossi, or also known as Capirex, has been succeeded in bringing the Kessel Racing Team as the fastest team in this session. In this FP1 session, Capirex drives Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 and defeat other racers flawlessly.

Capirex is paired with his teammates, Alexis De Bernardi and Niki Cadei in the FP1 session. As the result of the FP1 session, Capirex score the record of the best time, 2 minutes 10.465 seconds, 0,229 seconds faster than other racers such as Jeroen Bleekmolen, Maro Engel, and Khaled Al Qubaisi who are the member of Black Falcon Racing Team. The Black Falcon Racing Team drives Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in this FP1 session.

Even though Capirex gains victory in the FP1 session, everything seems gone wrong in the more crucial moment of the Gulf 12 Hours race. In Gulf 12 Hours race, Capirex’s way is not as smooth as what he found in the FP1 session. This 42 years old driver who came from Italy experiences accident when the race has been took place for nine hours. This accident became the main reason why Capirex finish the race in the eighth position. However, the driver who once achieved the third place on 2006 MotoGP can put his name on the second place in Gentlemen Class.

Despite of being failed to win the Gulf 12 Hours, Capirex still glad that he can achieve a remarkable experience of driving the Ferrari in Abu Dhabi. This once in a lifetime experience makes Capirex don’t feel too bad about his losing.

“Being in the race with Kessel and Ferrari is a dream came true. This is the first time for me doing the race in Yas Marina. This is very exciting. Our car is really beautiful and I feel that it’s so prestigious that I can join the race in this event. Moreover, doing the race using Ferrari is always a special thing for me,” said Capirex, as been quoted from RACER.

“I have been visited this circuit on three or four years ago. I visited this circuit once because I involved in the project of searching the new track for MotoGP. So, the Abu Dhabi government invited me to take a look at the track. But unfortunately, this circuit is not too good for MotoGP races,” Capirex explained. Capirex is known as the winner of 1990 and 1991 MotoGP for 125cc class and the winner of 1998 MotoGP for 250cc class.
